Table Mountain Day Walks

The Table Mountain Guiding Company

".the guide was fantastic. It was like being led up the mountain by a friend. Conversation was excellent as was the knowledge of the mountain "
Nitesh Patel, United Kingdom.

The dominant feature of the Cape Town sky line, Table Mountain is an obvious item on any visitor's agenda - the views over the Cape Peninsula and beyond have to be seen to be believed. For most, a casual trip on the famous cable car would suffice. But for some, the subtleties of experiencing the hidden recesses of the mountain valleys, the colours and smells of the world-renowned flora and the sweet success of reaching the top on foot, only heighten the reward of soaking up the panoramic views and clear mountain air that await you..

The Table Mountain Guiding Company aims to complete the experience of Table Mountain by offering a series of walks that are graded to your sense of adventure and level of fitness, making the pleasures of this famous land mark accessible to all with an average level of fitness.

Where do we go?

We offer 5 grades of walks :

Table Top Direct
The best of the mountain in the shortest time - a classic and our most popular route that takes in fantastic views of Cape Town before swinging around to take in the Western seaboard and the 12 Apostles. Your ascent is tempered with some adventure as we tackle some short and exciting rock steps on your way to the top - a good all round experience. No rock scrambling experience necessary, but a general walking fitness is required. Cableway descent included, with options available for catering. 3 to 5 hours.

Relaxing Rambles
Easy strolls on top of the mountain or along the contour paths. Very little climbing so the ability to place one foot in front of the other is all that is required. These trips focus primarily on cultural and ecological aspects on and around Table Mountain. Catering option available. 3 to 4 hours.

Special Note: Relaxing Rambles on top of the mountain require an ascent by cableway not included in the tour price.

Moderate Climbs
These walks take in novel, scenic routes up Table Mountain, focusing on unusual ascents rather than the standard routes. Any ascent of a mountain is strenuous, so an active level of fitness is required. Options available for catering and cable car descents. 6 to 7 hours.

Strenuous Climbs
These concentrate on routes up the Mountain that are a little more demanding and adventurous. Some routes are exposed. Options available for catering and cable car descents. 6 to 7 hours.

Scrambles
Short of rock climbing, but close - fasten your head for heights and enjoy a day of comfortable scrambling. Options available for catering and cable car descents.
6 to 7 hours.

Porter-Assisted Trips

You carry nothing except your water and your personal clothing on any of our trips.

Active Africa has entered into a reciprocal agreement with a local community development project whereby in return for training and mentorship, trainee guides provide a porter service for our clients, carrying the food and equipment required for the day. This allows trainees to accumulate the necessary experience to qualify as guides in their own right.

Winelands Walks

If wandering between the vines with the sun on your back, the magnificent vistas stretching out before you and experiencing from a grass roots level the phenomenon that is Cape wine appeals to you, then spending a day with Active Africa walking through the heart of the Cape Winelands is an experience not to be missed.

Spend some time getting to know the people that work the land and join in on activities such as harvesting and pruning. Of course, no visit to the Winelands would be complete without experiencing the renowned hospitality of the farms and sampling some of the wine - we conduct 4 tastings on your journey, and lunch with the wine maker on his 100 year old homestead is a memory not easily forgotten. We end our day at a quaint country hotel with a game of Petanque (French Bowls) and taste a selection of wines from the farms in the area, with an opportunity to take your preferred vintage home with you.

What's Included?

Free transport within the Cape Town CBD to and from your accommodation, lunch, refreshments, 4 wine tastings, professional specialist guide.

Cape Point Walks

The rich heritage of the Cape of Good Hope is made more memorable as you take a day to explore the coastline and wander through pristine coastal fynbos. Fantastic views from the Cape Point Lighthouse illustrate the stories of ancient mariners and tragic shipwrecks - this is the famous Cape Point as you will never experience it from a coach!

After collection from your accommodation, we drive directly to the Cape Point Nature Reserve 40 minutes from Cape Town. We start our day exploring the pools on the rocky coastline before climbing up to our first view of the peninsula from the Cape of Good Hope - the South Western most point of Africa. No visit to the Point would be complete without going up to the Lighthouse, and a short climb looking down on secluded beaches takes you to a stiff walk up to enjoy the spectacular views. From here we leave the crowds and head off on a ridge walk through the fynbos to our lunch spot on the cliff edges overlooking the dramatic coast of the Indian ocean seaboard. Our day ends with a short stop in Simonstown and a visit to the famous Penguin colony at Boulders beach before returning to Cape Town.

Whats Included?

Free transport within the Cape Town CBD to and from your accommodation, lunch, refreshments, all entrance fees, professional specialist field and marine guide.

What do you need to bring?

Warm clothing, wind breaker, comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support, hat, suncream, and spare cash for curios and momentoes.
